Our Story

CrossFit Kindred is a functional fitness gym in San Jose, California. Our mission is to create a caring community that inspires real people to rekindle their passion for fitness and life.

We combine high-quality CrossFit coaching, strategies for inside and outside the gym, and social accountability to help you strengthen your body, clear your mind, and free your spirit–no matter what your starting point.

If gym routines or diets aren’t cutting it for you, you’re not alone.

Maybe you’ve found yourself thinking:

  • The gym makes you feel bored or out of place.
  • Eating well is hard to fit in with all your other responsibilities.
  • Much as you love your family, you often feel like you have to choose between being healthy and being close to them.
  • You know you need a healthier lifestyle, pronto—you’re just not sure how to get started.
  • You’ve stopped seeing results from your exercise routine, and you need to switch things up.
  • You’ve heard of CrossFit, but it seems kinda crazy. You’re not sure whether you can hang with it.

If any of the above sounds familiar, we get it. We were there, too, and we’re here to show you that it doesn’t have to be that way.

We (the owners, Vanna Truong and Leonie Solia, as good friends and business partners) combined our love of CrossFit with a strong desire for every person to feel welcomed and valued.  Our gym’s purpose is to create a caring community that inspires people to rekindle their passion for fitness and life.

The fitness we teach incorporates your mind and body in a way that’s safe and effective for the long haul—so those long-standing health issues will be a mere memory.

We’ll teach you practical strategies on how to stay consistent in the midst of real life.

We’ll also support you in eating smart and making good lifestyle choices—all based on your own experimentation and self-trust.

Finally—we’ll give you a safe, welcoming, socially accountable space to do all this among quality people. You won’t want to leave or stop working out!

So we train you to develop a positive mindset from the start. Everyone’s treated with honor and respect, egos are left at the door, and experts and newbies learn side-by-side as peers.

Creating a strong family culture is at our core, because in our tech-driven world, it’s getting harder to find places where you can learn and grow with others on a regular basis.

While families are loving and supportive by nature, they can also get stuck reinforcing unhealthy patterns together. At Kindred, we’re committed to spreading a new culture of community that uplifts its people, and then encourages them to inspire their own communities in turn.

We infuse these values into everything we do with our students, our staff, and our business. Every member of the Kindred family has something to contribute. Period.
