I had a heart attack in September 2011. Two years later, I started searching for a personal trainer or small gym. I’d gotten tired of just walking, and 24-hr clubs didn’t work because I didn’t know enough about fitness. I found and visited CrossFit Kindred in December 2013. I told myself I’d just commit to 3 days a week and see what happened. It turns out, I did better than I thought I would. Doing the “Baseline” workout on my first day, and then as early as 3 weeks later, I noticed an improvement in how I did, and how I felt.
I got a blood test recently, and all my numbers improved and are now at or below the maximum healthy range. I also went from being on 2 medications to just taking vitamins. When I started, I couldn’t even walk 400 meters, let alone run it! Now, during CrossFit workouts, I can do the whole run without stopping. The funny part is, with CrossFit I don’t feel like I need to think too hard about whether I’m progressing; it just happens. Part of why I wanted to do CrossFit was because I had a grandson on the way, and I knew it was going to take a lot of energy to spend time with him. Now I do have more energy for him.
