The Process

STEP 1: Student Consultation/Intro to CrossFit

Once you’ve decided you want to get in the best shape of your life and join a community of like-minded folks, it’s time to book a Student Consultation/Intro to CrossFit with your personal coach.

Do it alone, or bring a friend along to this 60-minute free Intro session. You’ll meet your personal coach and learn about our approach to CrossFit, which is based on the MadLab Group system. We’ll also get a sense your current fitness level, your strengths, and your needs.

STEP 2: Personal Training

Our 1-on-1 (or 2-on-1) Fundamentals Course will help you reach your goals faster than any aerobics, bodypump, bootcamp, or other group exercise class.

Yes, you’ll eventually have the option to graduate to CrossFit group classes. But before that, we need to make sure that your fitness level and competence with CrossFit movements are where they need to be to safely join those group classes.

So, your Fundamentals Course will consist of 12 to 20 private training sessions (1-on-1 or 2-on-1) with your personal coach. People who visit CrossFit Kindred always tell us we have the most welcoming community–and our high-quality, attentive coaching staff plays a huge part in that.

During your 12-20 personal training sessions (the exact number depends on your fitness level and abilities), you’ll get familiar with the CrossFit movements: 30-40 movements including things like Olympic weightlifting, power lifting, gymnastics, and rowing. You’ll also learn about mobility, injury prevention, and nutrition. We’ll use established physical benchmarks and the Wodify fitness app to track your progress.

Why personal training before group classes? There are 3 big reasons:

First, CrossFit is incredibly technical; learning it is like learning a new sport. Just as you wouldn’t throw a newbie onto a varsity swim team, we don’t throw someone who’s never done clean and jerks, snatches, pull-ups, or rope climbs right into an intense group CrossFit class. Instead, we teach you the movements properly first, so you’re confident and safe when you take your first group class.

Second, personal training lets us address your individual needs, weaknesses, and injuries. Every person needs to work at their own pace to stay injury-free and increase their longevity.

Third, we believe relationships are key to enriching one’s life, and having a strong relationship with your coach can have a huge positive impact. We want to get to know you–who you are, your fitness goals, what’s going on in your life, whatever you need–so we can help you succeed.

STEP 3: Group Classes

Once you reach our graduation requirements, you’re free to begin group classes.

In our group classes, you’ll push yourself and sweat it out with your fellow members. You’ll compete with yourself (and others, if you feel like it) for rounds, time, points, glory, satisfaction, growth, and awakening. You’ll reach heights you didn’t think were possible, and you’ll discover a support network of awesome people who’ll help you along your path to health and happiness.

Every class is taught by a coach, and is capped at 12 students. That means you’ll keep getting technical coaching even as your skills and fitness improve.

STEP 4: Refresher 1-on-1 Sessions

Every 4 months, you’ll meet with your personal coach for a 1-on-1 session, where you’ll work on your weaknesses or on technical movements you want more help with.

Our minimum requirement for refresher sessions is twice a year, but you can meet with your coach more often for 1-on-1 coaching if you want to. You can use these private sessions for anything you want extra help with, such as strength training, gymnastics, mobility, or nutrition consultations.
